Pros
Corporate office was in a good location, making commute a little easier. Snacks in the office. Convenient. Benefits were good, expensive but very good. Training opportunities. Flexible working schedule if you ask. This is a great company to work for if you like a laid back, unprofessional, slacker mentality.
Cons
Headed up by two former GovCon contractors who were experts in their field, but nothing else. No real company direction. There was lots of talk and ideas, but very little came to fruition. The heart of the Cons is this company is it is half-headed up by a bumbling CEO with a sketchy past that I wished I'd known before accepting the position. CEO is a troubled man, who often spiraled out of control similar to someone coming down from a bipolar high. Rash decisions were often made after emotional benders and many meltdowns. Always attempted to put a quick fix on things rather than take care of things properly. This led to noncompliance in many area's, and future problems. He often talked about how much he had to do, always the same 10 items on his to do list, but would squat in another's office for hours on end shooting the breeze, or just walked around. Be prepared to be asked infiltrating and inappropriate questions about your personal life, gawked at from doorways, smelled/sniffed when near by, and receive awkward compliments. He often leaves items to the last minute and due to the rush makes many mistakes that trickle down to the departments and sadly, the employees. Unfortunately, these mistakes are never his doing, but often "system generated" or due to someone else. Communication is lacking. He often forgets major points in discussions, does not listen or give his full attention, or interrupts with unrelated questions or entire conversations. When he doesn't understand the conversation because of his ill attention, he will become angry with you and start an argument. Later, his ill attention leads to accusations that the conversation was never had, or the communication never happened, and will hinder important deadlines. Fear mongering, accusations and lies run rampant in this dual owned company. In an effort to maintain a good status with the other Owner/President, the CEO is not afraid to lie, or hide things (such as documentation) from the President, or completely leave him out of certain things. CEO often will tell his employees that the President of the company had problems with them or was for some reason unsatisfied with them, making them afraid to report anything to him. Any attempt to communicate an issue, problem, or concern with the President will lead to major problems, up to and including termination. Especially if it is against the CEO. There is lots of work to be done (Pro)! However, important projects were often pushed to the back burner and labeled unimportant so that the focus could be on whatever the CEO's newest and latest "exciting" idea was (major con). You will often have to put aside your knowledge and expertise in favor of doing things the wrong way because you "were told to," and later account for why it was done wrong, and fix things. The office environment is gender biased, supported from the top down. There is a gender pay wage gap, issues are only taken seriously if a male reports it, and it was often talked about how "attractive women" are better in certain roles, particularly roles where there needs to be a public figure. There were many raises given out, some to the same people multiple times, but women were denied their requested raise amount, or the amount entirely for obscure reasons completely unrelated to performance (such as they didn't like the way you asked). As a woman, you should have a man to take care of such things as it was explained to me. Drug use on the job is acceptable, and tolerated. No use reporting the violation of the company's Zero Tolerance Policy, as the CEO "cannot handle every issue." If you notice illegal activity, or something "questionable" LOOK THE OTHER WAY. Further investigation, questions, or documenting evidence and reporting will only hurt you, even if it is your job. This is a high stress environment for those who take their professions seriously, and like to do things correctly. The amount of things going on here will cause great agitation, concern, confusion and completely demotivate you.
