Pros

Compensation is great and the coworkers are friendly.

Cons

I was cornered into leaving a review I didn’t feel comfortable leaving like the rest of the employees. You are SO MUCH BETTER than this company!! Toxic work environment! Upper management has called employees awful names to other people. They string you along about promotions. White men succeed in this company. They do not prefer other ethnicities. No HR. ABSOLUTELY NO growth!! I know times are hard with the pandemic, but please don’t work here. You will regret it!!! I can’t wait to leave!

We are truly saddened you feel this way. We do not take this feedback lightly as we take great pride in providing a positive culture where our employees feel comfortable, appreciated, and valued. There are multiple women in management positions in this company, and we will always promote the most qualified person for the job. We support every race and culture, and we strongly believe that everyone here is treated fairly and equally. That is very important to us as a company and always will be. We are always trying to improve the workplace at Discount Waste, and we value feedback from all employees. We do encourage our employees to leave reviews with their honest feedback and realistic expectations so that potential candidates know what to expect. If any current employee comes to management and is no longer happy in their position, our policy has always been to offer assistance through one of our outside recruiters to help them find another place that may be a better fit. We genuinely want our employees to be happy. Once again, we want to apologize if you had a negative experience here, and we hope the best for you in the future, whether that is at Discount Waste or somewhere else.

Pros

Aggressive raises and decent benefits

Cons

The culture at this place is absolutely toxic. They corner employees into giving good reviews. Management is a circus show and are disrespectful to employees. Upper management has even called employees vulgar names behind their backs.

Pros

Catered lunches, stocked snacks & drinks in the fridge, and coffee at your leisure. There is opportunity to grow with them being a smaller company & significant pay increases as a National Account Manager, when that time comes. Company outings are fun. And for the most part, you encounter some great individuals that you can lean on throughout your time here. It is challenging, but will prepare you for something better. This is a great place to start or even build your resume. If offered a position, smile, keep your head down and grind it out. The BEST thing about this job is leaving to apply those skills elsewhere.

Cons

Unfortunately, I am not a favorite, so I can tell my time here is limited. Full transparency, management is awful. We can start by the unprofessionalism. I’ve never experienced upper management talk so openly, horrible about their employees before working here, even about those who are no longer there. Never understood the point in that. They preach about providing a positive atmosphere and don’t care that they have created the toxicity. When it comes to your actual work, you will be micromanaged. They have created an environment off their own insecurities and don’t trust their employees. You will be over worked. The open door policy is valid, you can talk and vent, but no real change is made because they are not all that progressive. The summers/hurricane season are the worst! At all times, you are on call and must answer after hours and on weekends, but luckily they are honest about that during the interview, but there is little to no flexibility. I remember the senior Vice President making a joke with the fact that a prospective employee questioned the work/life balance (laughing that there isn’t one). When I say, this is a great place to start, there is no real longevity in this role. Check the facts, employee turnover with this company has been significantly high & was informed that in the past it was a lot of seniors that ended up leaving. They do a great job at tearing you down when you mess up, but when you are succeeding you only feel uplifted in the fact that you still have a job which you question because reassurance doesn’t come from the bosses. You can tell there is pressure at the top of this chain and the horrible management skills are only being taught & passed down where you don’t catch a break. Most reviews made on here were asked to be done in a specific time frame, so they can monitor who said what and when. I would take the positive reviews with a grain of salt. This company lacks any true integrity and offers no diversity as most of the employees are white, specifically men. Don’t believe me, check their LinkedIn. There is no Human Resources (HR), so discrimination & harassment are overlooked way more than you can even imagine. Don’t think there is someone you can talk to if you have any issues, unless you feel comfortable going to the president as he is the “HR.” During the toughest time and still to this day, while it is mandatory to report to the office, be careful. They treat the pandemic as if there is not one, they will not let you know when someone comes down with a positive test, so the chance of you getting it or passing it to a loved one is not on their radar. You will be talked to anyway by the Senior Vice President who does not take accountability as to why his employees are leaving. Due to his toxic & unprofessional mannerisms which are then passed down below him to the other managerial staff. The disrespect comes from his moth and those below him simply laugh, but no one holds him accountable because, who really can. It’s also crazy how this company was ranked top 10 small businesses, best places to work in 2021, but no survey was sent this year to have employees evaluate and provide honest feedback. Found that very suspicious as if they had only a certain amount of favorites do it. Don’t get me wrong, if you get on their good side, you are golden, but there’s only so much room for favorites. I am not sure if the owner or the president of the company is aware of these actions, but they also don’t make you feel safe in thinking they would be any different. Thank yew

It is very sad to hear that your experience at Discount Waste has not been enjoyable. I can say firsthand that this is a company where you get out of it what you put into it. I have seen people come in here, work hard, and be very generously rewarded for it (repeatedly). Others have come in and not wanted to put in that same hard work. Those individuals did not see the upward mobility within the organization that the former had. The job is very difficult and management is up front about that from the first interview. The Senior VP takes pride in being able to reward each employee for all the hard work they put in. Their job as SVP is to make sure everyone they manage is taken care of and they continue to do a fantastic job at that. There is a great deal of thought put into how each employee should be managed so that they are happy and can work to the best of their ability. At the end of the day, employees are trusted to that they will get their work done. Nobody is micromanaged at all. The idea that anyone in upper management talks down to or about an employee is simply not true. As previously mentioned, Discount Waste is a place that anyone can make a long-term home. If you come in and work hard, I guarantee you will be successful here. There is a fantastic group of employees at this company right now and each and everyone would say the same thing.
