I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

This job is great in terms of allowing people to have great flexibility to work while being a parent who is present in your kid’s life. Government benefits and 401K are still great. You can make more in the private sector, but you have to do the Math in terms of benefits, 401K match and pension. Government jobs tend to be more stable than private.

    Cons

Lack of growth opportunities Government Procurement Processes are outdated and too administratively involved. If you are motivated and smart, DCMA will frustrate you greatly. There are a lot of lazy, unmotivated employees who seemly do not care. Lack of Government Funding in terms of training is having an impact on the workforce.

I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the best work-life balance I've experienced. Telework and flexible schedules make the experience more enjoyable.

    Cons

Work can get monotonous or frustrating, especially when dealing bureaucracy and red-tape.

I worked at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many times the difference in the enjoyment of a job is more about the people than the tasks. That is the case here. I had the pleasure of working with and interacting with Contracting personnel throughout the agency, and uniformly the experiences were excellent. The Contracting personnel were professional, well educated, knowledgeable of the rules and regulations that they are required to work within, and there are many, and genuinely interested in achieving the best possible outcome. Concerning the projects; this is the Department of Defense, the projects and the dollar amounts don't get any bigger!

    Cons

Technology support and tools. Some tools are deployed without full capabilities, which can be frustrating. Also a primary tool for DCMA is MOCAS, which has been in use by DCMA and DFAS for nearly 50 years. It is the system that will not die, nor is likely to ever be replaced.

I worked at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    The hours and holidays off

    Cons

Not challenged enough the job description was nothing like the assigned duties. They want you to have a masters to be a glorified admin ordering supplies and sending emails. No one really knows how to explain the work only how to get it done and not always the right way

    Pros

Quality of life and work-life balance are great.

    Cons

Unfortunately, engineers are often paid the same as people with less rigorous degrees. This has caused a great deal of turnover.
