Pros
Having come from a good working environment previously, DevOps Group still managed to top that with living up to the expectation of a working environment for a company that prides itself in its DevOps and Remote-first culture. They have been a friendly and able bunch so recruitment has worked well to identify people you would want to work with.
The main surprise having recently started was the smoothness and completeness of the on-boarding process. I expected a 'wing it' approach from a relatively new and fast growing company, but nothing could have been further from the truth. There was no being thrown in at the deep end, there was time taken to allow both formal on-boarding as well as a buddy system to allow role-specific questions to be asked effectively. Everyone has been happy to be peppered with questions though so no formality required.
Genuine and on-going thought is given to the Remote-first culture which works well.
Other staff are quick to provide ideas and advice re career and opportunities to get involved in various events/initiatives early on.
The monthly DOGConf is useful to meet remote workers and those based in other locations, and it was clear that staff feel safe enough to be able to ask tough, direct questions in the AMA section which was good to see.
