Pros

- Innovative solutions for product design - Creative designers and knowledgeable engineers - Staff Discount on Company Products - Relatively new MD who is tackling issues in the company & shaking up the culture from a senior level. - Change of management/director staff to improve the working culture and change of company's direction. - very flexible adaptations in the working office - Travelling to suppliers where required.

Cons

- Workplace processes & methodologies extremely inefficient, complex and convoluted - Some managers are indecisive with the immediate plan of action on most meetings, some managers sometimes makes you do extra unnecessary work that leads to reject. - Overtime hours are not appreciated nor they offer flexitime - Poor pension scheme.. - Biased favouritism and political culture. - Some bullying and intimidation in a few departments, lack of discipline. - A lot of backstabbing and strong blame culture. - No proper staff training at the time of recruitment. - Not utilising the full potential with the current structure they're using. - Poor staff management by a few managers. - Seriously high turnover - Most staff doesn't help you out properly but have high and naïve expectation to have you completed the tasks in an unmeasurable and unspecified target and timing.

Thank you for taking the time to review Morphy Richards as a place of work and thank you for highlighting the progress being made under the company culture and direction. A significant investment in our new Company Values is ongoing following the launch in October 2018 and we hope to see colleagues and leaders working together to achieve common goals in line with these Values as they embed into our ways of working. A great deal of positive change is happening around the Group and your comments on processes and methodologies are very relevant. A Group-wide investment in SAP and the development of improved business processes such as Integrated Business Planning (IBP) will help greatly in this area, giving colleagues better tools to do the job and support all colleagues with a wider appreciation of departmental activities. Leadership development is critical in supporting cultural change as is role modelling from senior leaders and this is why are investing in this area too. All of our Directors have recently been through a focused development programme and further plans are in place to support and enhance these learnings. Management development for first line managers is next and this will be part of a rolling plan of continuous development for all people in leadership roles. All colleagues have a performance appraisal that has been recently refreshed to include the new Company Values, Performance Ratings and Career potential discussions. Feedback on the new process has been extremely favourable. We do not tolerate bullying in the workplace and our HR Business Partners work closely with teams to ensure a positive and professional work environment. If you would like to report any specific activity please contact any of the Directors or the Human Resources Department directly. Thank you once again for your feedback and hope this goes some way to addressing your concerns.

Morphy could do better

Pros

Great innovation and working process. Excellent testing facility that no one appreciates with the most.

Cons

Poor pension pay, they didn’t paid mine during my time there. Poor pay against my high skills sets. Strong blame, back stab and bullying workplace with very poor management. Poor Management With budget, planning, managing teams and communications to the suppliers and their attitude could do better. No flexitime, but expects you to work most of your lives there. So called health insurance scheme that’s actually a scam that doesn’t support you financially when you’ve paid for it. Lack of team development and empathy of each other. Managers are too narrow minded so a lot of good opportunities are missed or misunderstand the “cultural differences” when selling designs to some countries.

Pros

- Talented, (mostly) friendly & helpful workforce. - Recognisable brand for future career progression - Good annual leave entitlement. - OK core hours - Opportunity for Engineers to travel to the Far East. - Nice office space, good testing facilities. - Handled COVID office situation effectively, prioritising employee health and displaying some flexibility. - Above average sickness benefits

Cons

- Design & engineering salaries are poor, minimal pension contributions & no bonus structure. - No paid overtime (but expectation to work additional hours) - A culture of hiring a significant amount of external consultancies & consultants being hired, ignoring the in-house experience, demoralising the work force. - No formal payment structure, a persistent habit of underpaying those 'fortunate' enough to progress within the company. Pay disparity is massive, and being at the positive end of the scale was seemingly based on luck, ability to pester & persuade. - Agonisingly slow project development time due to prohibitive processes & unneccessary bureaucracy. - Presenting the same presentations, producing & maintaining written documentation & meeting-after-meeting make up the majority of a working day, not providing the most nurturing environment for product development. - Poor, aged equipment & prototyping facilities in comparison to other companies, especially for a company of Morphy Richards size. - Office politics often drive project direction rather than consumer needs, historically leading to White Elephants elephants. - During my time at the company, some management roles were held by people who were not qualified, experienced or skilled enough to warrant their position. "I don't always know the answers, but if you give an answer with enough confidence people will just think that it's correct" - Paraphrased 'advice' provided to me by a member of management. - Ability to talk confidently is valued as THE most valuable skill set, above actually being competent at your role. - Comically poor handling of recent restructuring process, loosing a lot of skilled staff, subsequently needing to rehire to fill positions, likely offsetting much financial benefit, whilst losing decades of experience. - Poor communication from the top, although vague, uninformative updates about future plans are common - which is deemed sufficient and constitutes good communication.
