Good people with the very bad management

Pros

- There's good healthcare. - People are generally good. - The company seems to openly promote good wellbeing at work and is very open about trying to improve itself. - Good place for a summer job or getting experience before moving on to a better job. - Good lateral and vertical internal job opportunities.

Cons

- Unfortunately, the only thing they can't improve is the management, because the managers aren't going to fire themselves, and they're not going to let themself be demoted. - The leadership is made up of scientists who would be better suited at doing science stuff than business management. - The leadership doesn't even understand how or why the management is bad. I don't expect it to get any better within 3 years, which is most likely going to end up killing Dispelix. If ALL the big issues aren't fixed by the make-or-break point of the AR industry, then Dispelix WILL break and fall. You can't have projects overrun their deadlines by months or years in the fast-paced tech industry. As illustration of bad management: - All projects are late. - Project managers mostly just update gantt charts and fill in excel sheets weekly. Good project management is more proactive and reactive and willing to get into the trenches if the project is derailed. - There are no postmortems or lessons to be learned after projects, so the same mistakes are repeated every time. There's no downside to the project managers for running projects poorly, so they have no incentive to improve.

Dear colleague, Thanks a lot for your feedback. We can read a lot of frustration in your review, also worries and sarcasm. You mentioned Dispelix is a good place to get experience “before moving to a better job”. It sounds like you are dissatisfied with your job and we invite you to discuss your concerns with a member of the People Operations Team or your manager. At Dispelix, everyone is encouraged to raise their voice about improvements. We are sorry to hear that you feel your voice is not heard. As we are constantly improving our ways of working, and we have founded the well-being group this fall where everyone is welcome to participate and bring in ideas. Please feel free to join. Concerning poor project management, thank you for raising your concerns, we will take them forward. Kind regards, People Operations Team

Pros

Company has free coffee and snacks. Marketing works great. Everything looks cool and fantastic to the outsiders and investors.

Cons

Management (mostly) is awfully presumptuous and arrogant, which leads to lack of commination in general. The high-ups and managers have no respect for the some of the workers as well as the law of privacy in employment. Unprofessional behavior is a norm; humiliation, and gossiping are included. Multiple times false info about certain worker(s) has been communicated to third parties without their consent which is a brazen violation of the law ( but the victims are often poor/bound as they need to take care of their families and they move on and do not fall into the legal battles) but what can you expect from villagers who become rich? Grace and humility? No way! Please stay away from this ''promising'' trap especially if you aren't Finnish enough. A lot of gossip swept under the carpets- maybe cleanup before it starts stinking?

Dear ex-colleague, Thank you for sharing feedback. We can hear that there is a lot of frustration in your message, and it likely derives from unmet expectations on both ends. We are extremely sorry if this has been your experience at Dispelix. The accusations you are making here are very severe and even aggressive, and we feel sorry that you have not raised these while you worked at Dispelix. We take pride in that our management is down-to-earth, open to feedback, and providing feedback. Dispelix complies with the law, and professional behavior and communication are the standards in the company. Dispelix is indeed a Finnish tech company and its headquarter is in Finland. Our company culture, however, is based on universal values (innovation & improvement, collaboration, agility and flexibility, courage and self-guidance, and success). We are aiming to live them in our daily work and hire people who share these values. We are proud of our multicultural team of more than 30 different nationalities; everyone is welcome and respected regardless of background. Regarding communication, we have received feedback that there is room for improvement, and we will make sure to invest in that. All the best, People Operations Team
