Pros

- Kids and families are the only reason to stay.

Cons

- Admin constantly introduces new programs despite staff barely being able to conduct the usual curriculum - Weekly PDs (half the time they’re just updates that could be an email) - No accountability for admin. They can and will get away with anything. - Admin will explicitly ask for “positive feedback” in the end of year review despite consistent failure and refusal to change with teacher suggestions - 3x/week observations not including walk throughs from DS and admin - School day is from 7:50-3:45. Contract hours are 7:45-3:45. Not enough planning/lunch time. Meetings will be scheduled during your lunch period. - Teachers are asked and expected to discipline students during their lunch period, despite the school having two deans and plenty of admin sitting in their office on their laptop. -With a large amount of students who can’t read or do basic math… admin looks the other way as the school year is filled with multiple standardized tests and test prep lessons. - Teachers are encouraged to teach to the test and check answers before submitting to ensure high scores - Admin hires a certain type of people. ** None that reflect the student body. ** - Teachers and paras are heavily underpaid while management continues to create arbitrary upper management roles. - Management increases recruitment efforts but will not pay existing teachers more in tangent with Chicago public school salaries. - Extremely high turnover rate.

Pros

Working with students who need the extra attention. Great school to start by getting your foot in the CPS/Charter Schools door. Teachers work hard for their salary. Wednesday school day ends at 1pm. From1pm-345pm, workshops to improve skills. Friday, always a school assembly at 245-320. Cutting the teaching day short. Allowing for pep rally to honor students of the week. Teachers of the week announced on Fridays. Salaries might be on the lower end but..... Lots of pizza, sandwiches, donuts for staff on any given day for your hard work. Environment offers ways to move up if you get along with your superiors. If you can recruit enough students, you can start a club in whatever you want. Ex. Engineering, Chess, etc.

Cons

Behavior management struggles every year. Students here do not listen to teachers and there is no solution. Last year they transitioned from detentions as a form of punishment to a merit and demerit system that does not work very well with students. They try to use the Teach Like A Champion book to help staff work with students, but it does not work. Each year more than half of the teaching staff is new. Making it tough on students to establish strong relationships with teachers. Regardless of your teaching expertise and knowledge, the Dean's at these schools hold all authority. Speaking up might cost you your job. Classes are mostly taught using iPad, and chrome books... Lexia and ST math. The school looks good when students can progress in these apps. Not a lot of actual instruction. Lack of sports teams. Only basketball is prioritized. No soccer, Volleyball, etc. programs.
