Pros

The retreat every year is a good way to meet associates and partners in other offices for internal BD.

Cons

I had a negative experience working here. I can only speak of London but it is very top heavy - hardly any associates in each team. The firm does not pay well or have good benefits. A lot of people have left in the last few years and were not replaced as there isn't much work. There is not a lot of benefit to being an associate at this firm - low pay, no training, not a lot of work, no involvement in BD, and ultimately the partners just don't care about your development. The US does not care about London, I worked in corporate and hardly did any cross-border work with other offices. The London office is not high performing and receives a lot of low level work. There doesn't seem to be a strategy for growth or improvement, partner hires seem random and there are no big teams - Duane Morris in London isn't well known for anything and is not full service. The culture is poor - low pay and few benefits has that effect. For a small office there was also a lot of nepotism which will always negatively impact culture.

Pros

Lots of little employee perks like free beverages and often even free lunch with trainings or meetings. Overtime pay for working extended hours, which included dinner if there after 7 pm and for those in a major city, free personal transportation Home. Also vacation and sick time allotments were generous as well as holidays.

Cons

Office morale was depressing. Workloads were reassigned so often because of attorney insecurities and demeanors it was often difficult to build rapports. Ineffective employees were not held accountable and those with a great work ethic were overworked without additional compensation. Attorneys never planned their schedules efficiently and could care less about support staff getting home to see their own families (good thing we received OT). The attorney-to-Assistant ratio was often overwhelming where partners would literally fight for help.
