Avoid working here

Pros

none that come to mind

Cons

Worked in the Technology department for five years. The culture here reeks of finger pointing and covering one's back. To much backstabbing by management / coworkers (and I use that term loosely) and they play favorites. Its not what you know , its who you know. The HR department is a joke. They cant even produce a proper exit interview. Finally out of here with a great company who values employees and isn't stuck in the clicky high school mentality!

Pros

Good intent by many employees. Pay is surprisingly on par with the industry. They built a good brand and do a lot for community activities.

Cons

Many older employees that have been there forever and have no forward thinking or experience outside this bank to move it forward. Management is very out of touch.

Eastern Bank Employee Review

Pros

The bank is really involved in the community and supports volunteerism.

Cons

Employees can't contribute to a 401(k) until one year of service - unheard of in the market for an employer of this size. No laptops, no flex hours, no work from home, some tuition reimbursement after one year of service, but you have to be employed at the bank for TWO YEARS after reimbursement or else you're required to pay everything back. Only 10 vacation days/year until 5 years of service. Very sporadic casual/jeans days for non customer facing roles in small satellite offices. Some of these are small changes that make a tangible impact on employees' lives (i.e. allowing jeans every Friday). Archaic business culture, if you're young and motivated there is zero incentive to stay here.
