1) Workplace violence is very much a thing here. Fights on the production floor and shootings in the parking lot. These issues go largely unaddressed.
2) Quite possibly the worst HR department in all of US manufacturing. HR once told me that employees with holes in their work boots could still enter a smokehouse with 200+ degree grease on the floor. That happened in real life. HR also told me after a shooting in the parking lot that "you should not have went home because of that. There was a much worse situation at our other plant and everyone stayed."
3) Upper management knows about HR shortcomings and allows thus behavior.
4) If employee safety is only a concern on manager to manager or supervisor to supervisor basis. Upper management could not care less if your body breaks for $11 an hour.
5) if you express any concerns with HR or upper management, they respond as trained birds and remind you "Texas is a right to work state. We don't need a reason to fire you legally."
