    Pros

    Growth industry, opportunities to prove your worth, some excellent people to learn from, safe working environment, friday afternoons off in some locations, working from home allowed. Firm is massively profitable due to semicon division currently enjoying huge boom. If your face fits and you sing the tune you are told to you'll be ok. 'Flexible' employees very well treated.

    Cons

    Work in the UK changing as manufacturing and local technical support moves to newly declared autonomous centres in US, Asia and Czech. UK still involved but to an ever decreasing level. Inexplicable appointments are made leading to conclusions that are never discussed but not denied either. If you are a competent engineer you will get plenty of work but increasingly you will be required to be 'flexible' meaning long assignments away from home. It is no longer an engineering company, in fact designers and engineers are almost mocked by a new incoming wave of Marcomms people, project managers, senior project managers, VP's all of whom are ignorant of the legacy and why it is such a profitable company. Under BOC, Edwards was a fine place to work, even the redundancy package was very generous as was the final salary scheme, sharesave options and other benefits, all of that has gone to be replaced with Atlas statement "We don't want to make employees rich". Very disappointing attitude which will see employees who want to do well leave.

    Advice to Management

    Sell us or realise that the next generation of producs will be needed when the customers say so, not when you do. Spend just a little of the obscene amount of money you are making on product development, not just junkets to Singapore.

    Pros

    Local company and interesting product. Loads of positive changes since becoming a part of Atlas Copco.

    Cons

    No career path or clear career progress prospects, unclear policies.

    Advice to Management

    Keep moving and changing with time and learn from AC global partners. You are doing a good job!

    Pros

    Really good people, great technology, strong customer relationships - well embedded, diversity was important, long history in the vacuum world which attracted good talent

    Cons

    Difficult transfer of ops to Korea, private equity owners very short term focused, subsequent sale to Atlas Copco should be good new

    Interesting and complex products.
    Huge amounts of accumulated knowledge of semicon industry.
    Lots of opportunities to learn and develop.

    Cons

    Average pay for Bristol market.
    Horrific PDM and managament of CAD vault; no integration between systems.
    Not great company culture, though it is changing.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in better IT solutions that can improve productivity and reduce business risk.
    Look after top performers instead of treating everyone equally.

    Gravitas of company moving to Asia. No real reward for long service
