Pros
Salary is okay, but the benefits are great.
Cons
-Leadership often seems more interested in ceremonial wins than real victories. -Employees sometimes receive treatment that the organization would shun corporations for engaging in. -New employees start with a three-year contract that has a probationary period attached, but don't be surprised if the period gets extended and you somehow never receive notice. -Absolutely the worst internal political culture I've ever experienced. Employees are subject to the whims of any national, state, or local union leaders they have contact with, which becomes untenable when those leaders are in conflict with each other. -People's economic policies may be uber-progressive, but be prepared to deal with some really retrograde views from some of the old guard on other issues (especially the environment and gay rights).
