Pros

Air Products throughout its history was always known as having a competitive advantage in its very skilled people, its commitment to safety and its positive impact on the community. I think all of this still is true, but I also believe it is being dampened by the impact of the new CEO and the new direction he has taken the company. I am hoping the organization comes through the recent changes and emerges as strong or stronger someday, but I and a lot of folks have significant doubts.

Cons

Shedding 1,500 positions (and counting), especially from businesses like Electronics and Performance Materials who were more than carrying the ball for the rest of the company return-wise, has caused morale to plummet. Long-term strong contributors were and continue to be shown the door to shed overhead with little respect for their tenure. As another reviewer said so well, the knowledge-base in many areas was cut substantially, and the people remaining are scrambling to fill holes and are looking over their shoulders and worrying that they are next to be cut. I worry for peoples' safety and for their mental health in this atmosphere.

Pros

I learned a lot from the teams I worked with over my tenure. If I was particularly interested in learning about certain parts of the business, I was often allowed to tackle those challenges. Mentors were very helpful and encouraging. I enjoyed the people I worked with and they always tried to open doors into other parts of the company I was interested in.

Cons

If you want to be doing mostly pure mechanical design work, there is less of that available at Air Products. Lots of opportunities for operations, project management, and EPC roles for mechanical engineers, and pressure vessel work from my perspective. In the initial round of placements, you get matched to one team (you can join or not) — it was not exactly my cup of tea from a day to day work perspective. Second round, I was able to join a team where I absolutely loved doing the day to day work.
