Pros
-Good compensation & work life balance -Having worked at AWS opens a lot of doors for your career
Cons
I started my role at AWS with a lot of hopes and a genuine eagerness to learn and work for one of the biggest top tech companies in the world. My experience was nothing but traumatizing and disappointing and quite a downgrade from the previous roles I had at other companies. The work environment and culture are toxic and people are not necessarily willing to collaborate or work with you unless it's something they can put in their promo doc. This promo doc is apparently at the center of what everyone is doing as a Solution Architect at AWS; the customers or colleagues come second or third. My manager was unsupportive and there were no discussions about my career, goals, and so on, even if I brought up these topics myself. I complained to my manager multiple times that I didn't have so many activities and work to do and asked to support other colleagues/projects only to be later on berated for my eagerness to contribute beyond my role, which would be quite the opposite at other companies. Also, I witnessed lots of preferential treatment that my manager and skip-level manager granted to other colleagues, such as approvals for participating at international conferences, better development opportunities, and overall more recognition. I have never felt more discriminated and offended in any other workplace and this was by far the most upsetting experience I have ever had.
