Pros

Compelled to share my experience at Balance Autism for future applicants looking to apply. The pros of the organization: - The opportunity to advance quickly due to high turnover. Depending on the department. - Making a difference for the person served, children and adults with Autism. - 8% match on a 403 B - Non-profit experience

Cons

The cons of the organization: - The lack of proper training – this is very essential in a direct care role as this has put employees safety at risk. -Management/ Senior leadership -Low compensation -Horrible culture -High stress environment with employees working almost 50+ hours per week depending on the position The first few months of employment with Balance Autism was great, however, with the change in leadership it became very apparent that the organization was no longer head in a direction that I could support. If you’re looking for “experience” this is the opportunity for you, but if you’re looking for a career I suggest looking elsewhere.

Pros

Continued opportunities to grow. As a non-profit it also means that these positions aren't always visible, but instead are opened as the agency grows and needs support in different ways.

Cons

Sometimes the stress of the impact we can have is a lot, not a con for Balance Autism, but a good reminder about the Human Service field. Thinking about how we support ourselves in good stress management is important, but also seeking out others (in and outside the organization) for this is support is also ideal.
