Terrible company with despondent workforce - Technical Team Blue Technologies Employee Review

Pros

It is difficult to think of any. There is a midsummer party with terrible food.

Cons

Worst company I have every worked for. Constant oral sex jokes from the sales staff, intimidation and demands of after-hours work without compensation, completely pathetic internal technology. 50 Windows XP machines still running, and they sell themselves as a technology company. The staff is so overwhelmingly negative and depressed it is palatable when you walk in the building. There are no windows in the whole place. The noncompete you must sign upon hiring stipulates that any and all ideas you have during or after work hours are the property of the company. Salary for technical staff is 20 - 50% below market and no performance reviews happen. You may take vacation the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the month only, and you may not roll over vacation time year to year.

Blue Technologies Response

Thank you for your feedback. We here at Blue Technologies were surprised and alarmed to hear of inappropriate language and interactions that do not coincide with Blue's high standards of conduct. I have shared your feedback with HR, however, because I have not personally had any of the negative experiences you have had here at Blue, I would encourage you to directly or anonymously communicate your feelings with HR to ensure progress can take place to resolve your issues. Blue's President Paul Hanna has also reviewed your comments and strongly reiterates Blue's zero-tolerance policy for misconduct in the workplace. He would also remind you that he has always had an open door policy so that employees can ensure such serious concerns are prioritized at the very top. I also encourage anyone with concerns over his or her workload to express them directly to their manager. Many of us may feel overwhelmed now and then, and I encourage you to communicate with your manager when you have these feelings. Blue highly values the success of all our staff, and looks forward to the opportunity to work with you to enhance your career here. Our structure is designed to give you a dedicated team manager who can work with you one-on-one to build upon your personalized "Mutual Commitment" plan for success, begun at the start of your employment. To build upon that success, we do agree that investment in technology upgrades needs to be a company priority. As such, it is among upper management's key focuses for 2015. Their goal this year has been to identify areas that can be improved and roll out solutions based on employee feedback - and those already underway have been met with much excitement by our staff! We've begun a comprehensive technology upgrade plan that will continue throughout the year, upgrading both hardware (computers, etc.) and software (OnBase, etc.) throughout the Company. Other initiatives include ramped up quarterly trainings with in-house and industry experts, and annual reviews which stress professional growth and development. We look forward to discussing additional coming changes at our annual company event next week! We hope we can foster more communication with you to address the serious HR breaches you’ve alerted us to, as well as include you in the exciting changes Blue has been and will continue to undertake to continue building a work environment that is committed to excellence.

Pros

The colleagues and team members at Blue Technologies are genuinely talented, hardworking, and collaborative. The people I worked alongside daily made the job worthwhile and were the primary reason I stayed as long as I did. There is a solid foundation of institutional knowledge among the staff, and the core copier business does provide some stability.

Cons

Leadership operates with a deeply entrenched, top-down mentality rooted in an outdated sales culture. Nepotism is prevalent at the executive level, which undermines meritocracy and morale across the organization. Compensation is below market rate with no meaningful bonus structure in place. The company has made a push into software and professional services but has fundamentally failed to understand that selling software requires an entirely different skill set, methodology, and sales culture than selling hardware. Sales staff are hired and managed as if they are selling copiers, and the results reflect that. Leadership's resistance to evolving beyond their comfort zone has created a ceiling on what this company can realistically achieve in its expansion efforts.
