Pros

-good perks and benefits -opportunity to take on big projects and learn a lot -Bolt has been able to attract some phenomenal talent -Dogs

Cons

-very young founder who really doesn’t know what he’s doing (he surrounds himself with young leaders too) -they laid off a bunch of people and carried on like nothing happened (had a 2020 “get everyone pumped” meeting the next day. Yes, it was awkward) -they allow toxic and underperforming people stay at the company because they just don’t want to deal with it (these people have questionable relationships with upper leadership) -the loudest voice in the room wins type of environment -diversity is a huge problem and they’re not even trying to fix it (a lot of white males making all of the decisions) -when someone gets fired, they tell the entire company via slack and talk about how that person isn’t “bolt caliber”, followed by the hand clapping emoji -known for setting people up to fail -Wouldn’t be surprised if SLC team is wiped out, followed by NY (there’s been talk for months)

Bolt Response

Ryan from Bolt here. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. We take feedback very seriously here at Bolt. We realized this year that our customer demand and product market fit was something that most organizations can only dream of. We grew very fast from 30 to 150+ employees, tripled our revenue, and doubled our customer base. Because of these outstanding metrics, we’ve managed to attract top Leadership and Executives from companies such as Box, Uber, SoFi, Facebook, Google, Square, Braintree, and PayPal over the last few months. We could not be more excited about and confident in our Executive Team to take us through our next phase(s) of growth. For further feedback, we encourage you to speak directly with me, your manager, and/or People Ops (in either SLC or SF) about the issues you are seeing so we can get ahead of them. We have created an environment of writing over talking so that the loudest voice in the room does not win.

Pros

Best company I have worked in. Great values that come through. Really like the autonomy to be a pioneer and the excellent standards we have. I like moving fast and innovating and solving new problems to deliver real benefit to consumers and businesses.

Cons

The pace is fast and we are constantly changing to keep pace with our innovation. That's not for everybody.

Pros

You will meet some of the hardest working people, you will grow your connections- Most of these Bolt members end up moving up to more established companies like Stripe, Shopify, Coinbase etc so when you inevitable leave- you will have a connection at one of these other companies!

Cons

The ceo pushed all newcomers to Contract instead of full-time to "prove themselve" when in reality, they need these individual contributors but can't afford them. There was a promise to move from contract to full time which never seemed to be the plan, they end up firing contractors under the excuse of budget cuts only to turn around and repost the position a couple weeks later. They have NOT paid contractors in over 2 months and have been giving the run around "Targeting this week.. end of next week..." these are peoples salaries and they are dragging this on. Leadership and Ryan Breslow have gone completely silent. This is on par with Bolts standards, these are the exact answers we provide to merchants when they are waiting on solutions from us because we've hit our bandwidth. it is clear as day that the business is heading to closure, why else would they be stalling paying salaries.
