Pros

Some great people, shame they aren't treated well

Cons

I've never worked at a company where there is such a gulf between the management team and the rest of the employees, or where the turnover of staff is so huge. Everybody is planning their exit. The culture is toxic. The management team have little to no experience/knowledge in the products - both media and events - and instead just blame and belittle well-meaning and hard-working members of staff. If they didn't lock themselves away they'd know they are openly criticised by a very unhappy workforce. A few great brands but even the events, some of which have been very successful, are now going downhill because they're trying to milk them for all they're worth rather than deliver real value.

Pros

I joined InvestmentNews 21 years ago when the publication was still owned by Crain Communications and, like many of my colleagues, was curious about my future once the brand was acquired by Bonhill a few years ago. In addition to being suddenly owned by a British company, we saw a lot of turnover at the top levels of management. I confess to being pleased by the transition of ownership and management and, as a veteran journalist I don't think I've ever been happier with the opportunities and challenges we have been allowed to take on under the new leadership. As someone who has worked remote ever since I joined the company, I was previously discouraged from taking on projects that required being in New York. But even before the pandemic forced us all to work from home, the leadership at IN and Bonhill have encouraged and supported my efforts to podcast and do videos, and be more involved chairing conferences and other events, all the while encouraging us to build our own brands.

Cons

As the world of old-school journalism continues to morph into what we're now calling content, I sometimes feel disconnected with the marketing side of the business. I'm not asking for more meetings to attend, but I'd like to at least know the people I'm working with. I need to work on that.

Pros

Brand name was respected and the Crain Leaders were well regarded.

Cons

Once the Bonhill folks arrived...and mostly due to Covid, pure nosedive
