Pros
Looks great on resume, made good friends, health insurance is decent.
Cons
I would just like to thank whatever senior VP left the recent review saying how “out of touch” senior management is. As an on-site manager who is a Bozzuto boomerang I can’t even explain how much this company has gone down hill. When I came back, I thought I was coming back to continue my career with “the best management company in the country”. What I came back to was cleaning up sites for “amazing employees”, seeing other “amazing employees” get promoted, when their sites completely unkempt, and upper management who has no idea what actually goes on at each site making decisions over who are “good” employees and who aren’t. How is it possible that sites that are disasters have passed years of property inspection when ledgers haven’t been maintained, DA’s haven’t been processed, etc, etc. if you are a good manager and try to clean it up you deal with endless HR issues of employees who are mad they have to work, and it’s near impossible to counsel or fire anyone, and by the time you are allowed to your mentally and physically exhausted from picking up the slack. The truth is you shouldn’t bother because you are more likely to get promoted if you just smile and join some clubs, then if you can effectively manage your site. I watched 5 GM’s leave within the past year, all really good managers, who went to do less as development or asset managers for more money. All of them seem genuinely happy and regret not leaving sooner. If you are a seasoned manager and looking for your next career move, this isn’t it.
