Pros

Very cool office space from an aesthetic end of things (see cons though) Uptown Charlotte location good for after-work activities Fun and supportive peers Some travel opportunities if that's what you're up for

Cons

Space The warp speed turnover and lack of space equates to a hot mess of people sitting at picnic benches in the kitchen or sitting on floors to do work. Compensation and benefits Salaries are paltry and barely within the average for most positions. Worst benefits package I have seen compared to quite literally every other job I've held. Leadership In Charlotte they are either incompetent or play favorites (or both) Lack of feedback Reviews and feedback are a joke. You will get fired with zero warning, zero prior discipline, and no history of mistakes, simply because a senior staff member doesn't like you on a personal level, end of story. I can't tell you how many people, who were excellent employees and put in 50-60 hour work weeks, I've seen this happen to, and then had it subsequently covered up by HR. It's one HUGE high school clique. Insane turnover I've never seen anything like it. It's a revolving door working at hyper speed. Picture a jet turbine. You have GROUPS of new hires quite literally every other week and so many people leaving that you have trouble keeping track. After-hours events It's an unspoken rule that your lack of attendance to these is held against you by senior managers, even if you have legitimate after-work activities that prevent you from going (Dr appointments, picking up your kids, etc). They won't do anything obvious to you about it in the open, but they will make sideways comments and use it as a means of playing favorites with other employees over you. Lack of direction, suppression, and huge bench periods I knew several people there who had been "on the bench" for up to 5 months or so, even when there were positions that had come available in that timeframe. Usually this happened to female developers, while the openings went to the male ones. If you are on a project, you are often not given any specific direction or idea of where you're supposed to insert yourself, and you have a huge chance of being outright prevented from speaking to clients. This was so bad that multiple times projects and presentation materials I completed entirely by myself, had to be presented to clients by someone who was more of a "favorite" and who often could not explain the work well because they were unfamiliar with it. Sabotage Some instances of senior staff purposely changing work someone did or misleading them in doing their work so that they could hold the contrived mistakes against them, especially when they didn't like the person and were looking for a means of getting rid of them. This company and this office in particular, is a terrible place to work. I left because I couldn't see a future for my career here and I still think it's the best decision I've made for my career to this day. Honestly, it's not worth the hassle because you will either be looking for work again in the next few months because you can't stand the place or because you were forced out by the rampant bullying that is enabled at this office.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It is very unfortunate that your time with CapTech was not the CapTech experience we strive for. We do listen and put actions in place to address areas where we can improve based on feedback. For example, leadership is leaning in and working with the Charlotte team to raise awareness, transparency, and directly address concerns raised from recent Glassdoor reviews. One of CapTech’s founding principles is offering a positive work-life balance to our consultants. We are sorry your experience has caused you to doubt our founding principles and to question CapTech’s career advancement and promotional plans. We believe that each member of our CapTech team brings different thoughts, opinions, and experiences and, together, those unique qualities bring value to CapTech and drive better results for the clients. We appreciate your contributions during your career and value your feedback. I would like to make myself available to you if you are interested in talking through these concerns you have raised. Please feel free to contact me directly at kapostolides@captechconsulting.com. - Katy Apostolides, HR Director

We appreciate everything you do for CapTech, and I'm glad your experience has been a positive one. We want everyone to feel supported as they grow and develop in new ways. I agree that the transition between clients can be stressful, and we recognize the importance of communication, support and engagement during these periods of change. Our weekly bench calls and open-door culture are two ways team members on the bench can connect and learn how to stay connected between clients. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR

Pros

CapTech’s biggest strength is its people. The culture is genuinely collaborative, which stands out in consulting where internal competition is often the norm. Teams work well together, knowledge sharing is encouraged, and there’s real space for entrepreneurship and innovation. The firm has also shown an ability to stay financially stable through uncertain times like COVID by taking creative measures to adapt. CapTech has embraced AI proficiency very well. They procured an internal certification program, created a learning path to get consultants comfortable and confident using AI tooling, and worked with clients to inject AI solutioning - even for clients not ready for it. It's pretty impressive to see how much success CapTech has had by understanding the impact of AI in consulting.

Cons

Leadership communication lacks transparency, particularly around decisions that materially impact employees. For example, the shift to unlimited PTO was positioned as a benefit aligned with industry standards, while downplaying the more meaningful financial implication that PTO accrual payouts were eliminated. That kind of decision would have been better received with straightforward, honest context about economic pressures. The consultant feedback process is also flawed. While there have been multiple attempts to improve it (SBIC templates, start/stop, incremental check ins), peer feedback trends overwhelmingly positive and often does not reflect actual performance. This creates challenges for staffing decisions and limits meaningful professional growth. There also appears to be a lack of alignment at the executive level. Decisions often feel consensus-driven rather than structured and decisive, which impacts clarity of direction. There is also a recurring disconnect between what is sold and what can actually be delivered. The MC practice and SI are routinely not aligned on scope, feasibility, or level of effort. This creates avoidable friction once delivery begins, puts unnecessary pressure on project teams, and can erode client trust when expectations have to be reset mid-engagement. On one project, it was hard to hear our client share that, "You guys need to fix the problem you created!" Trust in leadership is an issue. Many employees question whether leadership can scale the company effectively, and there is a growing perception that the firm is drifting toward a staff augmentation model rather than differentiated or "boutique" consulting.

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We’re proud that our people, collaborative culture, and continued investment in areas like AI have stood out positively. We also appreciate the candid perspectives on transparency, feedback, executive alignment, and delivery execution—these are areas we are actively and continually working to improve, and input like this helps inform those efforts. We remain committed to clearer communication, stronger alignment across practices, and ensuring we deliver on the differentiated consulting experience our employees and clients expect. Thank you for your years of helping CapTech be a best place to work. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR
