Reflecting on the challenges faced in my previous job, several key issues stand out: The management approach was problematic. While the stated goal was to assist prospective students in achieving their educational and career aspirations, the reality seemed more self-serving. This mismatch between professed and actual objectives set employees up for failure. The role was heavily performance-based, with specific expectations regarding enrollment targets. However, factors beyond an employee's control, like a student deciding to disengage or change their mind, unfairly impacted our performance evaluations. This situation created an environment where not meeting enrollment targets, regardless of the reason, could jeopardize one's position. There was a high turnover rate among staff, including Directors of Admissions, whose levels of professionalism and honesty varied greatly. A director who exhibited reliability, professionalism, and honesty was terminated shortly after I joined, and their replacement lacked these qualities, often setting team members up for failure, especially those not originally part of their team. An excessive number of meetings, most of which were unproductive, consumed a significant portion of time that could have been used to meet performance goals. There was a sense that the company executives were indifferent to the contributions of the lower-level employees, particularly those in admissions, who played a crucial role in the company's growth. In conclusion, there are numerous drawbacks to consider. This job may suit those seeking short-term employment, but it’s advisable to move on once you've achieved your immediate financial goals.
