Pros
What caught my attention about Covenant House was the inspiring stories of program graduates shared on TikTok.
Cons
I would like to share my feedback on the hiring process for the Youth Director role at Covenant House. I applied on July 23, 2024, and had a thirty-minute interview the following day. My first in-depth interview took place in August, lasting just over an hour. In September, I was contacted to confirm my continued interest in the position and subsequently participated in a third panel interview with several senior directors. During this final panel interview, I noticed that many of the questions mirrored those from my initial interviews. One senior director expressed surprise at my availability on weekends, emphasizing that the organization values flexibility and a strong commitment to being present whenever needed. When I raised concerns about work-life balance and the use of compensatory time, my inquiries were minimized. Initially, I was informed that the role would involve overseeing two sites; however, during the panel interview, it became clear that the responsibilities would extend beyond that. The senior director I would report to described their predecessor as someone who managed everything independently, implying that the expectation would be to maintain high performance with little support. I emphasized the importance of self-care and completing work within reasonable timeframes, but the tone of the conversation felt intense and rushed. Overall, the interview experience suggested a culture of high pressure and unrealistic expectations. It appeared that some senior directors prioritize performance metrics over staff well-being, contributing to a cycle of burnout. This might explain the low reviews on platforms like Glassdoor and Indeed. Thank you for considering my feedback.
