Pros
Great product and market position. Provides benefits on par with bigger tech giants (good healthcare, wellness reimbursement, snacks, lunches). Office has incredible views of the city.
Cons
Management is utterly lacking at Datadog, and it seems several managers have found themselves in positions of leadership despite having woefully inadequate leadership qualities. Poor leadership, paired with the fact that most communication (even with the people next to you) takes place over Slack, has created a culture of hostility and paranoia. I've seen people at the VP level publicly shame and embarrass their team members in open Slack channels. I've also witnessed (and heard) the business operations managers scream at their reports and berate them in the kitchen in the middle of the afternoon (note: you may be able to scream at a vendor on the phone until you get what you want, but that's not a tactic you should try with your employees). This all points to a failing HR philosophy that is exclusively concerned with benefits platforms/systems and seems to care nothing about leadership development, employee happiness, or conflict negotiation. An egregious instance of harassment initially resulted in a minor slap on the wrist before word of the incident began to spread and HR wasn't able to sweep it under the rug. The office environment feels hostile to almost anyone who isn't a white male.
