Pros

Working here is great fun, the team are sociable and very friendly. Working hours are very flexible and you’re able to WFH when needed. The office is pretty cool and there’s a flat structure environment.

Cons

Serious lack of management, probably due to being a startup. A lot of the time managers are not in the office and are unable to support junior members of staff. Despite pledging a non-hierarchical approach, this very much depends on the department you work in, who your boss is.

You said it and the founders listened- there has been a People and Culture function at DrDoctor since 2018 November. We now have a development framework, 1:1s, 6-month reviews, and a mentor program to ensure everyone has the support they need to succeed. We also run quarterly pulse surveys to collect feedback as we continue to grow.

Pros

The company solves a real problem in the NHS and the mission feels meaningful. Most engineers are sharp and collaborative. The tech stack is modern and there is room to experiment. You get exposure to real data challenges at scale and plenty of autonomy if you know how to drive your own work.

Cons

Processes are inconsistent and priorities change without clear communication. Engineering bandwidth is stretched which slows down delivery.
