Some of the co-workers were awesome and you will become close too them due to common enemies (owner and his management minions), shared professional suffering, and the ridiculous amount of time you will spend with them. That is my only positive, if you even want to call it that.
Cons
Let me start with this, if you are trying to get into the transportation industry or even just develop yourself professionally, DO NOT WORK HERE. Only if you were incredibly desperate would I dream of recommending this company, and I would tell you to keep looking while you worked here. Let’s start with the biggest issue because it permeates down into all the other huge problems with employment here. The owner is a selfish ego-driven individual who truly does not care at all about the well being of his employees, cannot stress that enough. While he constantly boasts about how awesome he is and always keeps his word, your tenure here (if you make the awful choice of working here) will be absolutely full of broken promises, deception, and being taken advantage of. Management is constantly changing, being switched out and replaced at an alarming rate, making it very confusing for employees at all levels. Employee turnover in general, actually, will happen on what feels like a weekly basis, with employees constantly leaving for other opportunities, oftentimes being fired, and sometimes just straight quitting (something rather uncommon in the workforce but it’s that bad here). The “opportunity” here is a very frail one, as any promotion received will almost guaranteed be without raise, you may be fired at any moment for not meeting ridiculous expectations, and the company itself is not a sustainable one, merely a cash grab for the owner. I mean it’s a freight brokerage with only one customer, literally ONE ACCOUNT, that could pull the plug on them at any minute. The whole business is set up to cater to this one client, so they have trouble adapting their methods to other customers’ freight needs. Many former employees could tell you about this company’s continuous cash flow issues... The worst part about working here is undoubtedly the hours, especially with most of the employees making $30-35k and working 50 plus hours every week. Working on the weekends, restrictions on vacation time (summer vacation “blackouts”), and working 70-80 hour weeks during busy seasons are all business as usual (“for the good of the business”). But the worst part, the absolute worst part, are the meetings. These meetings are quite honestly just little hype parties where the owner or one of his management puppets talk about winning BS awards, the owner strokes his own ego and talks about how lucky you are to work for him, and they just waste your time in general. Let me stress these meetings occur after hours, oftentimes going for two hours or more, so if you had any hope of leaving around 5 o’clock like a normal professional, said hope will die out. Forgive my language but I can only describe this ritual as a circle-j**k If you are working here or just started, I would say only good luck and keep that resume dusted off....
