Pros
Nice working environment, competitive pay, pretty fast accruing PTO, uniform allowances, great company discounts as well as a groupon style program, nice and stable working hours. Closed for all (christian) religious holidays as well as new years, thanksgiving... Decent amount of freedom and autonomy provided you do a good job. Good health benefits if you want to pay for them. Lots of internal contests and other ways of winning Amex gift cards. Not so much "corporate overlords" as executive management. Very OSHA compliant.
Cons
Uniform budget only goes so far before it's out of your pocket. NO NO NO NO overtime, they loathe overtime. Somewhat frequent reminders that our job is to pay shareholder dividends. Facilitating hoarding. The sales tactics of specific merchandise are sometimes borderline mendacious, given one knows the industry and related products inside and out; but I guess that's sales for you. To be fair though, we don't rip people off, ever. Just like the post office, you are expected to go outside whether there is rain, sleet, snow or shine. ESS pinches its pennies hard. We're often given tasks and provided with the cheapest, bare minimum tools and equipment and are expected to produce professional results. Your regular day off is subject to change with just a few days notice. Small staff [relative] means there is fierce competition for small number of promotions.
