Pros

Company is quite large but, they treat you well. Benefits are outstanding and pay is above average.

Cons

Like most companies the relationship you have with your direct manager will determine if the experience is good or bad. I have had VERY bad managers here and some good ones. It seems like the standards for hiring managers is very low. Many of the managers don't even have college degrees nor any sort of emotional intelligence. It seems almost all of the middle managers are bi-polar it is only until you get tempered personalities at higher levels. It can be frustrating when higher up managers don't want to get involved to solve issues they just push everything down to managers with erratic behavior. The company is neurotic in a bad way about safety. Generally speaking safety is a great thing to focus on but, Fluor takes it to a new level. The amount of useless paperwork is ridiculous while I like the energy, commitment, and focus much of it is facade. For example if someone breaks a tail light on a truck management will say safety stand down no vehicle use for 3 days. Call me crazy but, I wasn't the one who broke the light and it was a inexpensive accident that is part of life. The top manager for safety died at work and we heard crickets from the company. They didn't even build a memorial after his death not even a note from the CEO zilch. All that talk about we value our employees is just that talk.

Pros

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Cons

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
