Overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated - Speech Pathologist Forensicare Employee Review

Pros

The speech pathology team has an incredible lead/manager who fights for support, resources and advocates for the team. Very diverse experience across the caseload - no two consumers are remotely the same.

Cons

Huuuge culture issue: distinct separation between medical, admin, and allied health teams - very "us and them" mentality and most people working there severely underestimate the important and value of allied health disciplines and see clinicians as a nuisance and burden. Still on the whole a very punitive rather than therapeutic outlook despite the claims of consumer-centred care. Very limited support in most disciplines and you can be left on a unit as essentially the sole clinician in your discipline even as a new grad. Absolutely no room for progression due to constant budgetting issues. Pay is well below industry standard (and I worked there for almost a year before I worked out they were underpaying me). Management generally very tone deaf and ignorant to the needs and attitudes of both staff and consumers (despite these being raised directly with management).

Pros

Amazing staff in all departments, beautiful leaders who invest in your learning.

Cons

Being nitpicky, the office does not have enough light or air inside.

Pros

Caring committed clinicians. Privileged opportunity to work with trauma

Cons

Executive leadership who don’t work with the clinicians and don’t understand the work or care that can be provided. What once was a great organisation is now led by the head of People & Culture - with no health background. Care has gone backwards with the CEO and others working under a belief that their change is making the organisation better. Talk of a Forensic core model (for 2 years) delivering nothing. Removed all Nurse Practitioners, Speech Pathology and nursing positions. Unheard of for a health service. 700+ nurses and the nursing voice silenced. No recognition of nursing skills and that the service cannot run without them. No nursing voice at Executive and a slow removal of nursing leadership positions despite nurses being the core and major discipline.
