Pros

Many of the customers are ethical, mission-centered people who care deeply about their nonprofits. The company has recently started investing more money into improving the technical side of the house, so the product will probably continue to develop and modernize. Galaxy Digital's brand is fun and engaging. Many hours go into producing industry-leading webinars and technical resources, and the content in the newsletters is carefully curated - some areas of the marketing department are highly refined for the size of the company. The product is one of the better in the industry - although with a somewhat outdated UI, it's in general a highly respected offering in the volunteer management space. Great opportunity to work on an industry-leading solution to a well-defined market. Good company logistics - quality, industry-leading HR materials - onboarding, payroll, retirement, etc. tools were really streamlined. Although I can't speak to the entire company, schedule for members of the marketing team was very flexible - employee extracurriculars (ex. running an art studio, volunteering for SAR or veteran services, traveling abroad) was celebrated and time-off for these activities was almost always approved. Employees were highly encouraged to have good work-life balance, and senior staff rarely, if ever, encouraged employees to work outside work hours if they didn't want to. Great little office in downtown Asheville - really well run with really good snacks and a generally nice vibe. Close to good restaurants and nice trails. CEO does a nice job of connecting with individuals, and speaks very earnestly about the issues that concern employees like using employment to build generational wealth. Really fun banter in company-wide meetings, with lots of acknowledgement of recent accomplishments by team leads. Health, dental and unlimited time off. Really good acknowledgement of things like racial/LBGTQ+ issues. Nice coverage of marginalized holidays (although fairly limited celebration/acknowledgement of "conservative" holidays like labor day or memorial day)

Cons

"We've always done it this way" thinking plagues this company, particularly in the marketing department. Although initially very pleasant and friendly - I found management in the marketing department in particular to be profoundly dishonest - not only did they advocate for the use of misleading language in some areas of marketing materials, leadership was often changing their mind on priorities and acting in ways to limit productivity and communication. Management often micromanaged competent employees on simple tasks. There was very strong favoritism shown to an older male on the team simply because he was a confident man, as well as favoritism towards individuals that they had personally known and been friends with management. It was challenging to convince management on an issue using data/facts if they felt it contradicted with what one of the "favored" team members believed. It was very hard to explore any kind of bold or impactful changes while in this role. Time was often wasted in team meetings rehashing the importance of particular goals, with little effort put towards the collaborative implementation of those goals. As an earlier review commented, I found many employees a little "two-faced" - superficially nice with little interest in the kinds of deep, committed trust and honesty that results in true collaboration and growth. Projects seemed to be reactive, particularly in the SEO and sales space - Company seemed to have difficulties being forward-thinking, and often spent energy rolling back changes rather than continuing to revise and improve them. Across departments, things felt very stagnant. You could tell management was stressed and spread too thin, and taking it out on their employees. Leadership often spoke of commitment to employees, but rarely followed through. Case in point - an employee tried to pivot to a different role in the company for his own personal growth - he was subsequently fired with very little notice. Individuals were fired/let go without given other options that may have been more supportive - eg, provided training resources, or part-time with health-insurance or something similar. Termination was sudden with no explanation, no opportunity to say good-bye to work friends, and no opportunity for an exit interview. Lots of lip service to high-minded ideals with little commitment to backing it up. For a company with staff that had been remote pre-Covid, there was little cross-department collaboration. “siloed" is the word that comes to mind about company communication - Lots of DMing in Slack vs using group channels - the company had several workshops around the idea of increasing transparency and inter-department collaboration, but most communication occurs individual-to-individual on slack. There was lots of resistance to communicating with members outside of your department about work in general channels on Slack - "Talk to your supervisor for answers to this question" for questions that could be answered by other team members. HR also acted very possessive over the creation of recreational general channels. Few raises or financial incentives - worked for Galaxy Digital for two years without receiving any kind of compensation increase or bonus - holiday "bonuses" were cheap gifts off of a corporate "employee gift" website. Very limited financial support for any kind of training or career development. It was clear leadership struggled to meaningfully advocate for their staff. It was could definitely be worth working here, but be prepared for some corporate sleight-of-hand after your novelty wears off.
