Pros

Other than pay there are no pros.

Cons

Depending on the department you could find yourself in a time warp consisting of Old Boys club, nepotism, cronyism and a strong resistance to any change from all levels. A “We’re a shipyard’ pride in doing things ‘the hard way’. Pressure to provide five hours unpaid overtime each pay period ( called ‘Five for free’). Exempt workers’ pay is annualized (you live by the time clock, not really salaried/exempt – all the downside of hourly and all the limitations of exempt/salary). Woefully inadequate parking (be prepared to walk almost a mile or wait upwards of 30 minutes for the shuttle) Office technology twenty plus years behind. Broken toilets, black mold every summer on the AC outlets growing on the ceilings. One Industry town / isolated stagnate community with high drug use, no growth, transient population.

Pros

This is a last resort job if you can’t find anything else

Cons

The processes and systems in place to get the job done is dismal. There is no official training for the job role. If you make suggestions and try to be helpful you are seen as a threat by management. There is rarely any cross functional communication. It feels like they want things to take a long time and be wrong so that they can charge the govt. more money. (Bc every task you do will have a charge number). Most long timers at the company don’t care about the work being done inefficiently either, bc they have a reason for overtime. Very weird corporate politics / favoritism. (I have never seen it as bad as it is here). Parking is terrible at every location.
