Pros

I've worked at GenoLogics about 3 years now and there are several things that set GenoLogics apart from other software companies I've worked for. The first is the tremendous sense of team and mission. I love feeling like we're a group that's all in this together for the good of our customers. The second is transparency and honesty. I like knowing where the company is going and how the company is doing (in the good and the bad), and I know that if I ask a tough question it will be answered honestly. Finally, we deliver products that matter. There's lots of software companies out there, but at the end of the day, I want to know that the work that I do means something.

Cons

The company is growing and with that growth comes some growing pains, including putting in extra time when needed. In addition, the benefits package, while good, could be better when comparing with other companies in the Bay Area. It does have more vacation time than most, so perhaps that offsets some of the other aspects.

We periodically review our benefits packages, if something’s not up to the level, rest assured we’re fixing it!

Pros

The company has experienced good growth up until this year as a best in breed software management system for NGS. Having recently purchased by Illumina the company is transitioning over to the "Illumina" way of doing software. The team in Victoria is very nice and make a positive work atmosphere.

Cons

This product is in a niche market and is heading downhill as they have fallen behind in many areas. The entire middle management of the company runs on the "Peter Principle" and is governed by outdated processes, from on-boarding new hires, management practices, to their entire outlook. There is no way to advance in this company as many of the managers are keen on keeping people in their roles offering no viable way for training or improvement. They have lost 4 people this year alone for that very reason. If self-development is important to you avoid this company completely!
