High turnover in staff

Pros

Extremely intelligent group of developers and product owners who are extremely supportive.

Cons

Within the first 3 weeks of joining this company, there were 4 employees who quit, followed by additional employees leaving the company on an average of 1 every 2 months. Leadership is questionable, overheard a staff member question HR about their loyalty to the company as they were being laid off. HR responded that that it was not important as layoffs are just a part of business. Group layoffs have occurred more than once due to financial resources which leads to question the stability of the company and management of financial resources.

Although at times it may feel like there's a high turnover in staff, our turnover rate is quite low. In the last 12 months only 4 people have resigned. 75% took jobs in other cities or pursued a new career path altogether. Management will regularly schedule exit interviews to learn more about the reason for departure and learn from any criticisms an employee may have. It's true that we've had layoffs in the past, and it has a large impact on remaining team members. Our management team is always looking for creative ways and opportunities to work closer with team members.

A great place to build software that matters

Pros

I've worked at GenoLogics about 3 years now and there are several things that set GenoLogics apart from other software companies I've worked for. The first is the tremendous sense of team and mission. I love feeling like we're a group that's all in this together for the good of our customers. The second is transparency and honesty. I like knowing where the company is going and how the company is doing (in the good and the bad), and I know that if I ask a tough question it will be answered honestly. Finally, we deliver products that matter. There's lots of software companies out there, but at the end of the day, I want to know that the work that I do means something.

Cons

The company is growing and with that growth comes some growing pains, including putting in extra time when needed. In addition, the benefits package, while good, could be better when comparing with other companies in the Bay Area. It does have more vacation time than most, so perhaps that offsets some of the other aspects.

We periodically review our benefits packages, if something’s not up to the level, rest assured we’re fixing it!

The culture at GenoLogics is focused on open communication and team input, instead of rank or seniority. This can make people who depend on strict hierarchy uncomfortable at times, but we believe our democratic atmosphere creates the best space for true innovation and product quality. Improving processes and efficiency is the responsibility of all GenoLogics team members. We reward those find new ways to help us grow and scale.
