Pros

Work/life balance and good benefits.

Cons

I am very disturbed by the steep decline in culture and values in the past year. The company continually pushes minority leaders out the door, nearly all women product leaders have been pushed out in the past 18 months alone. In the meanwhile, while it takes a woman on the product team 6+ months to be able to justify a case for promotion to director, the white men on the product team get multiple promotions within a couple months. They keep finding excuses to “layoff“ women product leaders, or women leaders suddenly “resign”. One of the white male senior directors brags about how he’s so good at getting people to accept departure packages so he doesn’t have to actually fire them, and interestingly enough, all the people he convinces are women and often women of color. I’m truly disturbed by bro culture of the product team.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a transparent review. Please know that we take issues such as gender bias and discrimination very seriously and have escalated this feedback to Product & People leadership. Please also know that there is a process for handling involuntary termination involving our People and Legal team to ensure these matters are handled appropriately. That process is outlined here: https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/people-group/offboarding/#termination Our People Group and E-Group leaders are committed to supporting underrepresented groups at GitLab and, if you feel comfortable, a member of our People Business Partner or Team Member Relations team would be available to discuss this feedback. You can also anonymously submit this feedback as outlined on this Handbook page: https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/people-group/#how-to-report-violations

Pros

Best company I've ever worked for. Strong culture, great leadership, competitive compensation, excellent work life balance, and a genuine focus on employee well being and career growth.

Cons

Fast paced environment and high expectations, but that's part of working at a successful, growing company.

Pros

OK pay or benefits in the market. Fully remote. Still is trying to frame itself as a big player.

Cons

Leadership went from being collaborative, communicative, and transparent, to being mercurial, secretive, and out of touch with the actual work. OBSESSSES over your AI usage metrics - even if AI doesn't help you and slows you down. The current layoff in progress was communicated poorly and not planned at all. And now they want us to adore the leaders and the company? Cultish vibes. We went from a company that plans ahead to a company that reacts.
