Great Starter Job, Difficult to Grow - Principal Engineer GlobalFoundries Employee Review

While GF is a good place to gain experience, a few factors make it difficult to stick around: -Depending on department, work hours/expectations can be difficult to sustain -Working on older/more mature technologies can be uninspiring -Office politics and frequent re-organizations create chaos and erode trust in leadership -Exceptional colleagues that make the environment worthwhile have a tendency to leave for better opportunities. The teammates who choose to stay either are trying to coast, aren't able to secure better opportunities or are the few who are able to capitalize on the environment for their professional gain. -Downturns in the market and the goal of profitability can negatively affect job security. In the last round of layoffs, more expensive management positions were cut at Fab 8. Previously entire departments have been cut. It makes it hard to believe messages promoting job security or saying the company values the people.
