The Dunning-Kruger effect in action - Senior Leadership Team Good Energy (UK) Employee Review

Pros

- Highly motivated purpose-driven people doing their best to turn around a failing business if only they'd be let off the leash - Flexible working - Friendly environment within most teams - Progression possible particularly those in the contact centre - Emphasis on mental health (albeit this is simply an effort to mitigate the damage done by key senior individuals on a regular basis)

Cons

- Toxic culture of fear at the top of the business due to leadership not trusting their staff nor valuing the experience and expertise individuals bring. - Egregious lack of business experience at director level that is unfortunately paired with an inability to listen to others. - Lack of agency or autonomy in one's role as a result - your focus becomes box-ticking and avoiding criticism rather than taking reasonable business risks. - Things move incredibly slowly due to poor communication and governance. - Directors, seated on their own floor, have created an opinion factory which is the basis on which the trapdoor opens underneath so many brilliant people I've seen leave in my relatively short time so far at the business. Beware!

Pros

• Supportive culture — The people at Good Energy are genuinely friendly, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. • Strong mission — The company’s commitment to sustainability and doing the right thing for customers is real, not just a slogan. • Flexible and understanding management — My manager was supportive and always willing to help when I needed guidance. • Positive work environment — Teams collaborate well and there’s a genuine sense of wanting to improve things.

Cons

• Role fit — The role ultimately didn’t align with my strengths or the type of work I’m best at. • Pace and structure — The environment can be fast‑moving and process‑heavy, which won’t suit everyone.
