Pros

Some frontline colleagues were genuinely dedicated to supporting clients, and remote working options were occasionally permitted

Cons

My time at Groundwork was defined by systemic failures and ethical disregard. Senior management fostered a toxic hierarchy where favouritism trumped merit – multiple team leaders were appointed without fair interviews, often based on personal relationships rather than competency. GDPR compliance was treated as optional, with frequent mishandling of sensitive client data (e.g., case files left unsecured, verbal sharing of personal details in open offices). Discrimination was rampant: employees from minority backgrounds, myself included, faced disproportionate scrutiny and exclusion from progression opportunities. HR routinely dismissed complaints about bullying, protecting ‘untouchable’ managers who openly belittled staff. One manager routinely humiliated advisors in team meetings, yet multiple grievances led to no action. The organisation’s mission to support vulnerable communities felt tragically ironic, as staff wellbeing was equally neglected. Turnover rates soared, but leadership remained indifferent – a clear indicator of institutional decay
