Pros

- Great middle management. True MVPs holding the company up

Cons

- Long working hours. Sacrifices in personal life expected - No respect for personal life. Even on vacation or important events, employees will be contacted through direct messages. Work-life balance next to zero. - Not so great benefits - Toxic work environment - superiority complex - Under-qualified Product team. Pushing forward with features with little research, disregards developers' concerns over best practices and security. Led to technical debt. - No clear direction or vision - things always getting rebuilt or scrapped. - Preach transparency and candidness, but upper management can't handle criticism or concerns and brushes them off. - Lots of Kool-Aid drinking and propaganda floating around the office. Upper management preaches false claims to boost morale. - Dinosaurs that think remote work is bad. Hybrid approach only a front to feel important and power trip over seeing employees in the office. - Low salaries - underpays by a large margin. Options are used as a bait. - Ignores employees mental health - normalizes burn out culture and over working - No accountability from upper management - will always shift the blame down the command line. Don't fall for their excuse that startups aren't for everyone or that employees are making an impact. This is just an excuse to justify their unethical work practices.

We're sorry to hear that this is your impression of Helcim. We recognize the unique aspects of our culture including high impact work and the challenges that come with fast-growing organizations are not a fit for everyone so we do encourage spending the time upfront to understand the work environment which we're also happy to candidly share with anyone interviewing with us. While startups can require long hours and hard work, the mental health and overall wellbeing of the team is very important to us. Helcim is regularly working to find new ways to support all team members so they can be ambitious in their personal and professional lives. Working at Helcim requires passionate people who are excited about our journey and who are willing to put in the work to build something special and you'll see this in other Glassdoor reviews. We believe these reviews are far more reflective of what it's like to be a team member. We hope to attract people who share our core values, are excited to shake up the payments industry, and are full of passion, integrity, and talent. We wish you the best in your career and your next endeavor.

Pros

The culture of the company still feels surreal to me every day that I come into work. You have to meet a certain "vibe check" to get to work alongside the amazing people here. So completely different from the corporate banking world I have been in my entire adult life prior to this. The transparency during the hiring process about the reality of working for a startup company was very much appreciated as well. They didn't sugar coat anything - and want you to be able to succeed, if you're up for the challenge!

Cons

What I wish I knew before I started, is that the benefit package isn't the best. While I am very grateful that it begins immediately upon starting employment - the annual maximum for prescriptions isn't very high. I have a type 1 diabetic son, so we will max out his annual allotment after a few months.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for highlighting this important concern. We truly appreciate the feedback. We’re glad to hear that the immediate access to benefits has been valuable, but we understand that coverage limits, especially for ongoing or high-cost needs can be challenging. Supporting the health and well-being of employees and their dependents is something we take seriously. While our current plan has set maximums, there are often additional options available. We encourage you to connect directly with our P&C team, who can help explore solutions tailored to your situation. This may include coordinating with a spouse’s plan, looking into manufacturer assistance programs, or accessing supplemental or provincial drug programs available in Alberta. We are always committed to working with our team to find the best possible support and encourage anyone with concerns to reach out so we can help navigate these options together.
