Pros
The work at GMDAC is very interesting and has an impact. Small team of very nice and talented people at the working level. A dream job in many ways but one
Cons
The director of GMDAC is awful. There is no management structure as he has to feel in charge of everything. He lashes out unpredictably, ignores certain staff completely, sends passive aggressive emails constantly, and screams at staff. Young women in particular seem to get this behaviour. The few senior staff remaining minimise his behaviour and are disinterested in reporting these problems, though this may be because there is no way to make an anonymous complaint in IOM even if it deals with a direct supervisor. Most staff are kept on short term contracts with very limited benefits, which would be illegal if IOM were subject to German law. If staff weren't dependent on the director's approval for new contracts there would be many more complaints raised against him. There is no direction for the centre and staff is becoming increasingly demoralised because of his terrible behaviour and complete lack of leadership. Nearly a third of the team quit in 2018 alone.
