Pros

- Pay for your certs - You get to work with tech - If you have incredible mental fortitude, or are working fully remote, you might last long enough for a promotion

Cons

- Unprofessional management. I had service desk leaders talking near me about how terrible of a job my role is - Long 9 hour days, micromanaged lunches and toilet breaks, if you are 1 minute late or are just making your coffee, get told off. And then if you want to leave on time, you also get told off and encouraged to do overtime. Double standards - Management telling me off about what I wear, when others wearing the same do not get told anything (I was dressed smart casual like everyone else) - The job has stressed me out over a period of time to a point of having regular mental breakdowns at work - upon raising with HR I was told its my fault, none of my concerns were addressed, HR even provided very very out of touch advice, advising me to watch YouTube videos about productivity - Service desk team is treated like garbage, all of the credit goes to the site engineers or other departments. When asking other departments for help you are being treated in a rude and condescending matter, except the few good ones. Very high amount of ego in the other teams - Documentation extremely out of date to the point where you are stuck trying to find a password for longer than actually troubleshooting a problem. Constant promise of a new system but I didn't see anything like that happening - Very very low amount of holiday, only 21 days, and 3 of those are mandatory to take on Christmas - Manager constantly looking through your tickets and video calling you to correct the simplest mistakes. If you make a mistake you are shamed for it in front of the whole team. - Engineers purposely ignoring my questions/acting like they didn't hear me - Management/higher up engineers constantly in a call with each other despite there being a lot of work to be done, they are just chilling in a group call making jokes, for 30 mins+ at a time - Constant inappropriate jokes from management, I had many comments directed towards me based on my personal beliefs which counts as harassment - Whole team depressed, unhappy, no life behind their eyes. All because the company keeps taking on new clients without bothering to have enough engineers to actually support them. If you need to micromanage the team SO badly that you can't even have a 5 minute toilet break without it falling apart, then you're clearly understaffed. This is not hard to understand, and giving us comments like "this is just the way the industry works" "its fast paced" "until we get more people in..." "we work on a rota" - these are not acceptable answers. Its clearly not working, people are upset and constantly leaving, giving these generic business responses to these concerns will not help anyone .

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. After feedback meetings the Board members had with IOIT staff, we reduced the full-time hours to a 35-hour week for the Service team, as from January 2024. An essential function of the Service Desk is offering our clients an excellent and timely service. To facilitate this, our engineers have scheduled lunchbreaks to ensure cover. Beverages are provided and screen breaks encouraged. Any instances of stress or mental health struggles are taken very seriously, with regular one-to-one sessions built in to ensure every team member is happy with the workload and their progress. IOIT does not tolerate discrimination, harassment or any other form of bullying. There are several channels staff may use to report any such incidents, including anonymously. Annual leave is 21 days, plus the Bank holidays and your birthday off. This increases with length of service. We are open between Christmas and New Year and people have the option to take annual leave during this time should they wish to. The company has grown at a fast pace in the last couple of years, and the Service Desk team has doubled in size during this time with the view of adding more talented people in the upcoming months. IOIT is made up of brilliant, dedicated and conscientious individuals. We believe that through open communication and common goals, we’ll all progress with the business and share a positive working experience.
