The Kaseya acquisition of Datto and subsequent fallout led me to find a job that actually values a thriving engineering culture.
Cons
I have never seen a company go down hill so fast. Datto was (and probably always will be) the best place I have ever worked, However, following the draconian and disingenuous way that Kaseya orchestrated our acquisition I could no longer, in good conscience, continue my employment there. Within 90 days of the Kaseya / Datto acquisition, something like 25% of my organization had left the company - with the majority of those leaving from senior, staff and principal roles. It became immediately clear that Kaseya cares only about selling and locking customers into contracts, not engineering great products to attract and retain customers. Their strategy seems to revolve around driving sky high attrition and replacing those that have left with "cheap" overseas engineers who have zero experience. Some specific areas that have been particularly disheartening include: - within days of our acquisition Kaseya had removed the DE&I language from all Datto job postings. - management outright lied when asked about how existing Datto benefits compared to existing Kaseya benefits. - Equity compensation that we had in Datto was not replaced for most employees resulting in a significant reduction in pay for most Datto employees across the company. - Draconian and bizarre policies were put in places such as a zero domestic hire policy and a return to office policy regardless of whether co-workers actually worked anywhere near each other.
