Pros

At present, the cons so significantly outweigh the good times that I'm not able to honestly reflect on them in any way other than the CEO manipulating me into believing I was happy, even when my body and mind told me I wasn’t. My loyalty to the CEO limited me from recognizing how truly unhappy I was. And I was so unhappy, so stressed, and in such a breakdown, that one time, while at coffee with my CEO, I collapsed onto the ground outside a cafe and my husband had to leave work to come pick me up. He then helped get me the medical attention I needed for the stress and anxiety that was manifesting in physical symptoms. That’s how stressful and physically demanding the work environment was.

Cons

For this section of my review I’m sharing how my stand for a harassment-free workplace resulted in my departure, my realization that this wasn’t an isolated incident, and how power-dynamics is a culture-wide issue within the Kinetix workplace. During a company sponsored event in late 2017, the CTO punched me in my pelvic region. When I confronted him saying, “you just punched me in my [pelvic region],” he denied it and continued to physically assault me (while asking me why I’m so beautiful), as I forcibly pulled myself away. In the three weeks that followed this incident, I fell apart both mentally and physically. I was told by the CEO that a business decision needed to be made in order to retain the the CTO. My CEO even asked me not to involve HR in the matter, stating it would be an indicator that I didn’t trust him to handle the harassment issue at hand. I felt fortunate that I was comfortable enough to reflect that request back to him, and tell him how inappropriate it was. This left me feeling abandoned and unprotected by my CEO, who was both my friend and mentor. I felt ostracized and alone at a depth I’d never felt before. It took me about 5 months to truly reconcile that I saw all this coming; I saw it happen to other women and men. During my workplace investigation, it was revealed to me that in the same conversation, the CTO would be asked to stop making men at our office uncomfortable - I’d personally witnessed the CTO hitting our male coworkers in their man bits. In addition, there were multiple levels and types of bullying occurring in every-which direction. From the CTO specifically, lots of bullying people into drinking. Early in my tenure, my CEO even asked me to spend time drinking with the CTO, stating that it was a good way to bond with him. In June/July 2017,, I’d reported physical assault of my CTO kissing me at a company event. When I told the CEO about it, he said, “I’ll talk to [the CTO].” As later confirmed by the CEO, there was no written warning and no addition of a sexual harassment policy (at the time, Kinetix, a 13-year old company, had no sexual harassment policy). They’ve since added a sexual harassment policy, and the CEO claims it’s a “zero tolerance policy,” which I find surprising, because I’m gone, and the CTO still remains at the company. And it’s the CTO who’s repetitively kissing women without consent, and touching other employee’s private parts. But if you ask the CEO, he’ll tell you it’s a “zero tolerance policy.” There is a serious lack of consistency in how Kinetix treats sexual harassment issues, and it absolutely takes consideration for rank, tenure, value, and general-likability from others. I know this with certainty as there were other men at the office (entry-level) who were written-up or fired for harassment of women (myself being one of those women harassed by one of those entry-level men, who was written up and later fired). With deep regret, I'll also share that one of these young men later committed suicide. I take personal responsibility for the lack of inclusion we showed that man during his tenure at Kinetix. It was a truly exclusive environment with so much bullying. As many of the other reviews highlight, being on the management team makes you elite and powerful, but even on the management level, we still had our own power-dynamics issues, as I’ve just outlined. I truly cannot recommend that anyone work here.

Kinetix Technology Services Response

We are truly sorry for your pain and that your experience did not match our intention of having the best company culture you have ever worked in. Keeping the confidentiality of all parties in any HR-related issue is important to us, so we can’t provide a more complete picture here. We can say that we handled this complaint very seriously and consistent with the whole set of facts that we had, and with our values. It is important to note that it is absolutely not true that we made a “business decision” to keep this manager - we firmly believe that someone’s role at the company should not play a role in how complaints are handled, and it did not in this case. We have been and remain committed to fostering a safe, fair and equitable workplace for everyone. To current employees, if you experience or witness actions inconsistent with this, it’s vitally important that you report this to your manager or any manager that you are comfortable approaching so we can continue to create a culture we’re proud of.

Pros

- Kinetix hires some of the best people I've ever met. - After work events are quite fun - Learn tech skills at a blazing pace - Bonuses were pretty hefty when I was there.. I've heard they've since disappeared though -Feedback is pretty transparent, though at times brutal, and the company is constantly working towards improving themselves

Cons

- Work/life balance heavily leans towards the work side. Very frequently had to work extra hours to get the job done. Did not feel like we were ever properly staffed due to 2 reasons: high churn and low headcount to begin with - Never been more stressed in my life than when I worked at Kinetix. Very high expectations are put on staff and you can be labeled as "unreliable" if you make too many mistakes. - Feedback often comes off as public shaming. Some higher management make it their life to call out every single problem that occurs publicly. Feedback is then dissected by the entire company - Management often spoke ill of employees who left afterward - Most people here are underpaid for the amount of work they do. CTO walks away with millions while the rest of the team have a hard time making rent. A large number of staff left to other MSPs and made 20k + more than what Kinetix offered -Employees get a sense of stockholm syndrome. They believe that they owe the company their lives due to the career opportunities the company presents, although the company gives little to no equity in return. - A very large sexual assault allegation went completely under the rug. Quite a few employees left the company afterwards because of it
