Pros
- great community of immediate peers, always keen to support you and feel all the feelings together
Cons
- no real work/life balance - organiser type roles: you are working with many stakeholders where evening and weekend work is essential, not optional and it won’t be looked good upon you if you can’t always accommodate this - very much a who knows who environment, very cliquey with people having known some since university days. Sometimes hard to make in roads - an atmosphere of never complain - you can be asked to help at elections at any part of the country at any time. If you have children, a relationship etc note the job will put a high degree of strain on it - outside of general election time, it’s hard to progress UNLESS moving to other regions of the country is something you will be constantly happy to do
