Pros

- Competitive pay for your position - Solid benefits and some truly brilliant coworkers - Fun company outings - Startup culture/vibe - Fun downtown building, close to many amenities

Cons

Layer One promises the moon and stars, but you need to be prepared for what the day-to-day resembles. Externally, Layer One delivers some fantastic solutions and products and does a great job making clients happy. Internally, however, it's a different story. L1 is embedded in startup culture, both positively and negatively; on the one hand, products and projects move quickly and there are some exciting developments. Your position will quickly evolve and change depending on business needs. On the other hand, the volatility and turnkey nature of products produces tons of stress and confusion, which creates issues for the entire team. Employees are on a very short leash with vague performance goals. Turnover is EXTREMELY high (a shocking amount of employees departed over the last year). Also, concerningly, leadership encourages a "frat" culture, and I heard many things behind closed doors that were downright disrespectful. There's a ton of technical know-how, but a shockingly low amount of EQ. Layer One attracts a specific type of person, and you need to know what employment with them entails before accepting an offer from them.

Pros

I cant really say enough about how great this organization is. When I joined the team, we were really small. The team was all hands on deck for all clients, at all times. It was tough at that time, but the positive attitude of each member would shine through. Each team member has a great personality, they prove everyday to be the best version of themselves they can be. It is clear every day we are a team, we succeed together, we fail together. No one is left on their island with their problems. When you need help, ask. Everyone is accessible, it could be a question about something technical. It could be a question on the current state of the organization, or an impromptu gathering in the Deer District for a change of scenery. While we are all individual contributors, everything is about the team. We have the culture, team and mindset that other organizations dream of having. Best part, it's only getting better every day.

Cons

The team is still on the small side, so everyone wears multiple hats. There are times the hat you are wearing may not be the most comfortable. But, there is never a time when you are left on an island to get it done without a raft.
