Pros

Free pair of glasses/sunglasses every year. Friendly environment. My store’s associates dont have a “shark mentality” when new customers come in. You learn plenty about how the eye works and the intricacies of a pair of glasses.

Cons

Awful management. Commission is based on how far past the goal you go, AS A STORE. So if I make 500% of my goal, that doesn’t matter. All that matters is if the store hits the goal. Commission is a joke. If you make less than 95% to goal for the week as a store, you get $0.50 a unit for that week. 95-99.9% is $1 a unit. 100-104.99% is $1.50. And so on. There has only been one week where we hit around 140% to goal and we made $6.50 a unit which was nice. Too much expected from associates. Scripted interactions. You get handed every smidgen of work management doesn’t want to do. Hours are not there for the whole year until the holidays when you want to be with your family. During December-January they’ll put you on for 40+ hours whether you’re part time or full time. That can be seen as a plus to some. If you don’t sell to a customer you almost get in trouble, it’s like they expect you to sell to every soul that walks through the door and their families, child, parent or grandparent. Keep in mind these are $300-1000 pairs of glasses. No progression or management jobs open until one leaves. EVER.

Pros

when I first started it was a very employee based company. Great discounts, great benefits. Regional managers were swift to help if we had questions and offer support

Cons

Since last year the environment has changed vastly. They no longer care about the employees and only want results. They have raised prices and insurances dont cover as well as they used to and they expect the managers to just force people to buy. If you dont make your monthly goals youre put on a PIP and the Regionals are constantly threatening you to make them. The work life balance does not exist. There is a group chat with your fellow store managers hosted by the Regional and if its your day off they still expect a response. I know it comes from the top down but the micromanaging has gotten so awful. Down to the minute you must be scheduled correctly. I have been here for 3 years and have never had a positive review even though our store has exceeded its goals. Doesnt matter to them, they expect more and more. They raise goals constantly and the only answer they have for making sure we hit those goals is no one leaves, even though they can get the same product from a competitor at a much lower cost.
