Pros
Good work and smart people that care about the challenges faced by government. I'd say at least 85% really do want to solve problems for a safer world. Their initial reaction to Covid and policies that were put in place were very good. They still have an excellent retirement matching plan.
Cons
They appear to no longer value their workforce (as much as they value new work and more money/contracts). In the past year, benefits have consistently eroded; a reduction in vacation days (4) for senior employees, the loss of two holidays, an increase in the amount of vacation time expended before sick leave can be taken (from 24 to 40 hours), a reduction in health care benefits, and the elimination of 32 hours of civic time (allowing people to volunteer in the community). The cost of the fitness center and food prices have also increased, and many of these changes seem to happen under the radar - posted in very obscure places. Perhaps the thing MITRE handles most poorly at is the way they get rid of people - absolutely inexcusable. People who have worked for the company for 20, 30, or 40 years are let go without warning and without any acknowledgement of their dedication, service, and close connection to fellow employees. This has happened repeatedly over the last 6-7 years. I've been here 15 years and don't feel at all secure in my job, things can turn on a dime.
