Pros

You have absolutely nothing to do, you can sit there and listen to books. You learn about medical terminology and how devastating health insurance is.

Cons

Management is very unprofessional, they want you to sit and study the same thing for an eight hour shift because they have no work for you. They blame you for screw ups when they have no idea how to do anything themselves. They want you to not talk to anyone and just stare at a screen, unfortunately listening to an iPod with music/books doesn't last long. I did have movies on it too but they would yell at me for watching movies... Like there's a difference? It was overall the worst job and they wanted me to feel lucky I had it because they gave me two cups and paid me 18$ an hour but with health insurance it was actually 13.28$. I just thought the place needed a clean house. Fire every manager and replace them with people who know how to manage. Not people who know someone to get into the job. Oh and if you were five minutes late once you get into trouble god help you if you were sick and needed to call off. (Even though I heard you can skip for a week and they wouldn't fire you if they liked you).

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
