Pros

There are some amazing engineers at the company who are wonderful to work with and have some great lifetime experience to share.

Cons

Management is expecting us to start working 50 - 60 hours a week (uncompensated) for the next several years while they try to correct cheap engineering decisions they recently made. They play favorites to some cloud engineers and architects who don't have to help out when things break for days or weeks at a time. They are too cheap to hire additional people to help out as they transition to "DevOps" even though the change their mind quarterly as to what that actually means. Benefits get worse every year and there is no such thing as work life balance.

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
