It is always difficult to respond to anonymous reviews which characterise MBI and my leadership in ways I don't recognise.
But anyone reading these reviews knows that they only tell one side of a story; offering the unhappy view of someone who clearly did not enjoy working at the company.
That, unfortunately, sometimes happens if there is not a good fit between a company culture and an individual.
As a business we must take our share of responsibility for that mismatch which ultimately ends up with people not liking their job or employer.
We are working hard to ensure there is a really good cultural fit with people we hire in the future and complete transparency about roles and expectations on both sides.
We are not perfect - far from it - and we are constantly trying to improve as an employer. We always want to be better.
But what do the people working for MBI at the moment think about the business?
Every year we carry out a survey of our staff to get their views on our culture and where we are doing well or need to improve as a business.
The survey is anonymous and while we ask people to say which of our brands they work for, we don't ask them to identify themselves so we can get very honest and open responses. The last survey took place over December 2019 and January 2020 and 81% (68) of our staff completed it.
Asked to mark MBI out of 5 for how we are doing, our staff gave the company the following scores:
4.3 out of five for our values (Expertise, Passion, Innovation, Customer-focus, and Honesty)
4.1 for our general culture
4.1 for commitment and professionalism
4.0 for our work life balance and flexibility
3.9 for our management and leadership
I believe these are the scores of a good business to work for, working hard to be better in all areas.
In other areas, such as career and personal development, compensation and benefits, and innovation and communication, we are continuing to try and improve our performance to ensure we are as competitive as we can be.
We are also in a pretty old office building and we are looking at how we improve our office environment.
But overall, in the last three annual surveys our scores have been going up in most of these key areas as we work with the fantastic team at MBI to improve them.
So as I say, we are not perfect but we are always looking to improve and we are a friendly and progressive place to work. Lots of our staff have been with us for many years and seen their careers develop.
If you want to know about our business I'd urge you to contact some of our employees who are doing the kind of job you might be interested - and ask them their view.
I genuinely believe it will be very different from this anonymous reviewer's view of the business.
Or feel free to contact me directly.
I have listed our company benefits below. Again, we realise there are other bigger companies that may offer more, but I believe they are still an attractive package of benefits for anyone who wants to come and work for a busy media news, insights and events company like MBI.
We want people to enjoy working for MBI. Reviews like this show we are still not getting it right - including our recruitment of the right people for the right roles - and we continue to work to improve in all areas.
