Pros

Steady year round work Decent equipment On site maintenance Paid weekly Same base pay for all drivers even the just hired ones. 100% no touch freight, if you don’t want to. A large percentage is drop and hook at Meijer stores and some back hauls Home daily. Optional short and long term disability insurance. Paid time off if you have a baby even if you are a male. Union workplace Driver appreciation cook outs. Direct deposit Little to no money out of pocket for company things ie fuel and scales. On site axel scales, trailer wash and tractor wash bay.

Cons

“That’s not my job!” Is a constant theme you will hear from many different employees. The quality of the shrink wrap is terrible and the time the warehouse spends making sure the pallet is shrink wrapped properly is minimal. Over worked Little to no family time As a new hire I hope you like yard switching. Seniority based company so it takes a long time to climb the ladder enough to have some say in what your day will be like. Top guys get great runs and miles even when slow but middle to low end get sent home early with little miles. Management constantly talks about how much money is spent on trailers but it is almost always a challenge to find an empty trailer. Trailers are supposed to be swept out by the store once emptied but this rarely happens. FDA training on how refrigerated trailers need to be held to a higher cleanliness standard but it only makes it as far as the classroom door then all bets are off. Start time is picked by bidding on time slots based on seniority. Until you have decent time in it can be difficult to stay at the same time slot or find one you like. Until you move up the seniority ladder enough to pick a bid truck, you get to slip seat! Meijer is its own worst enemy when it comes to doing the job properly and safely. Because the faster you are the more miles, stops or switches you can get. Which ultimately means more money. You are a number, just meat in the seat that can easily be replaced Everything you have to update or look at is on the computer. No pay incentives for working hard or safe You will hear the same complaints from management many times but they don’t seem to want to do anything to fix the situation. There is an extreme disconnect from the CEO and top management to the normal everyday employee. They may be business savvy but they are not keeping people happy or accountable savvy. No weekends off, only holiday off is Christmas. It takes forever to have enough time on the job to finally be able to take a vacation with pay

Pros

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
