Pros
Generally good team spirit and collaboration. Good level of mobility within the company to keep developing one’s career. A lot depends on your direct supervisor’s attitude, though, and their relationship with their team. Company policies are flexible and focused on talent retention. Lots of great in-house training and support to attend off-site training. Decent, competitive benefits. Relatively higher salaries.
Cons
Dramatic shifts since acquisition by Merck KGaA in 2010 and even further with Sigma-Aldrich integration since last year. The company has become a perpetual “in the process of integration” organization and it shows in reduced morale and generalized sense of uncertainty. Silo mentality is the rule rather than the exception. Too much depends on personal relationships as opposed to processes and shared goals.
